Reconnecting MacArthur Park is a multi-phased project to reimagine the
create open space in one of Los Angeles’ most densely populated and diverse
communities. This project has the potential to restore one of LA’s most historic
parks as a welcoming place for people and families while improving
neighborhood health through added green space, enhancing safety for people
walking and rolling, and enhanced air quality.
Phase 1 of Reconnecting MacArthur Park is a joint project between the Los
Angeles Department of Transportation (LADOT), Los Angeles City Council
District 1 (CD 1), and Central City Neighborhood Partners (CCNP). This phase of
the project is grant-funded by the Southern California Association of
Governments (SCAG) and will end in Spring of 2026. Phase II of Reconnecting
MacArthur Park is set to begin in 2026 and will be a joint project between the
Bureau of Engineering, the Department of Recreation and Parks, CD 1, and
CCNP and is funded by the US Department of Transportation.
Why does Wilshire Blvd need to be reimagined?
Our government never runs out of ideas how to justify wasting taxpayer money and this is one of them.
Wilshire blvd is a vital thoroughfare for thousands of commuters to get to and from work, Westlake and
other surrounding communities depend on Wilshire blvd for daily commute which includes not only cars
but also buses. Wilshire blvd is a convenient and direct way to get to and from downtown coming from
the West and convenient and direct way to get to Koreatown coming from the East.
Instead of repairing the bumpy roads or using resources to EVICT THE HOMELESS THUGS and DRUG
ADDICTS from the area, city council and government swamp agencies invented more well paid work for
themselves with flimsy and irrational justifications:
The construction of Wilshire Boulevard in 1934 split both MacArthur Park and Lafayette Park,
and created a physical barrier in the community. Today, Wilshire Boulevard is considered a
dangerous street for biking and walking, with a high concentration of traffic collisions, injuries,
and deaths. There is a high number of schools in the area and the surrounding streets are
ranked by Vision Zero as the least safe to travel in the City of Los Angeles. The majority ofschools do not have onsite green space, making the park a vital place for children to play. Since
2023, there have been ten crashes near the park resulting in severe injuries for people walking
and bicycling. Reconnecting the park will create 2.3 additional acres of open space in one of
LA’s most park-poor and overcrowded neighborhoods, and allow for more activities and
amenities people want in the park.
ABSOLUTE NONSENCE ! The construction in 1934 didn’t create a “physical barrier” in the
community – it provided a convenient direct access for commuters to downtown and from
downtown without eliminating McArthur park altogether ! Wilshire blvd may be considered
dangerous for biking and walking, but NOT because of CARS – because of the violent criminals
roaming in the neighborhood and attacking passers by ; also because some people choose to
jaywalk and some drivers are reckless – but the solution is not to block Wilshire blvd and
penalize normal people ! The solution is to FIGHT CRIME, to REMOVE HOMELESS THUGS
AND DRUG ADDICTS FROM THE ARE, AND PROVIDE MORE CHP RESOURCES TO GO
AFTER RECKLESS DRIVERS. Children should not be playing in McArthur park because they
will be MOLESTED by drug addicts and homeless thugs ! Not only children – adults are not
going to use the park until the last homeless and drug addict is FORCIBLY removed from the
park and from the city altogether !
Eunisses Hernandez and other city council members are using self-serving surveys and
convenient but flimsy justifications to destroy Wilshire blvd:
Survey findings for this project show that over 60% of MacArthur Park users travel to the park
by walking, and this project would support safer walking connections while still allowing people
to access the park by any travel mode. The project is considering options for re-routing vehicles
and transforming the roadway for pedestrians to increase access to green space for
neighborhood residents. We hope these transportation improvements will remove Wilshire Blvd,
6th St, and 7th St from the City’s High Injury Network. A team of transportation planners and
traffic engineers are studying the impact of a potential closure for Wilshire Boulevard, and will
release a report with their results. Though this project may impact car travel on Wilshire Blvd,
neighborhood residents and visitors will still have sustainable east-west travel options including
Metro B and D lines, Metro Bus on 6th St and 7th St, and nearby LADOT DASH buses. In the
coming years, access to MacArthur Park will benefit from the Metro D Line extension,
connecting downtown with the westside via Wilshire Blvd. The Metro D Line extension mirrors
Metro 720 and 20 bus services. With this new high-capacity transit option, Metro is considering
service changes to bus routes along Wilshire Blvd.

REROUTING VEHICLES will cause a traffic NIGHTMARE for THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE in this
community and BEYOND. We already know that city council is doing everything it can to
INTENTIONALLY sabotage traffic by imposing unnecessary bicycle lanes, reducing traffic
lanes, closing streets to FORCE THE POPULATION INTO INCONVENIENT, DIRTY AND
DANGEROUS PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION – all to implement EVIL AND UNSUSTAINABLE
URBANIZATION IDEAS motivated by simply desire of our government to CONTROL the
population and DICTATE TO US HOW TO LIVE OUR LIVES !
Metro stations are infested with homeless thugs and violent mentally ill people attacking passers
by ,same is happening on buses, same is happening in and around McArthur park – and
Eunisses Hernandez and her city council cronies want to provide MORE SERVICES for the
homeless criminals and use UNARMED “SAFETY OFFICERS” to fight crime in the area
“without criminalizing” crime ! Have you seen a more idiotic approach to governing?
If you want safety, there must be an overwhelming armed police presence in the area and police
should be allowed to do their job instead of being scared of community activists videotaping
them to prosecute our police for restraining or arresting street thugs and other violators!
Unarmed officers will not help to protect the community from violent criminals !
As far as traffic related injuries are concerned – pedestrians and especially bicyclists need to
start abiding by traffic rules and be PUNISHED for not doing so – pedestrians cause their own
injuries by darting in front of moving traffic, young bicyclists perform theatrical tricks on the road
riding on one wheel and get in front of fast moving cars. Surely, many drivers are reckless too,
but closing Wilshire blvd won’t make them any less reckless – law enforcement will.
DO NOT LET OUR SELF SERVING CORRUPT LOCAL GOVERNMENT MAKE YOUR LIVES
EVEN MORE MISERABLE – STOP RECONNECTING MC ARTHUR BLVD PROJECT
DON’T LET THIS SELF SERVING CORRUPT SWAMP LIMIT YOUR FREEDOMS INCLUDING
FREEDOM TO DRIVE INSTEAD OF BEING FORCED TO USE INCONVENIENT, DIRTY AND
DANGEROUS PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION !
PRESSURE EUNISSES HERNANDEZ AND HER CITY COUNCIL CRONIES TO CHANGE
THEIR IDEOLOGY TO HELP NORMAL CIVILIZED WORKING PEOPLE INSTEAD OF
HELPING HOMELESS THUGS AND CRIMINALS WHO LOITER IN AND AROUND MC
ARTHUR PARK – MAKE THEM HEAR YOU AND PRIORITIZE POLICING THE
NEIGHBORHOOD AND IMPROVING TRAFFIC CONDITIONS TO ELIMINATE BIKE LANES
AND SPEND MONEY ON HIRING MORE POLICE AND CHANGING THE LAW TO REMOVE
ALL THE HOMELESS FROM THE CITY LIMITS INSTEAD OF HIDING THEM INTO
SHELTERS THAT POISON EVERY COMMUNITY WHERE THESE SHELTERS ARE BUILT!
ADVOCATE FOR LOW DENSITY, NOT URBANIZATION – BECAUSE WITH URBANIZATION
COMES CRIME, HOMELESS INFESTATION AND OVERCROWDING
TRULY SUSTAINABLE COMMUNITIES HAVE LOW DENSITY, LITTLE TRAFFIC, SINGLE
FAMILY DWELLINGS AND ENOUGH SPACE FOR SAFE PARKS WITHOUT DESTROYING
THE LIVES OF COMMUTERS !
